Niconico (ニコニコ, "Smile"), formerly known as Nico Nico Douga (ニコニコ動画, "Smiley Video"), is a Japanese social media website that involves posting and sharing videos. It is also known as NCNC for a short term.

Role in Gachimuchi Edit

This website, and 2channel, are the birthplaces of the Gachimuchi fandom, ever since some users used homosexual wrestling videos to troll users (similar to Rickrolling in 4chan), and when some other users decided to make musical remixes of said videos usually based on mishearings. Tags such as "Wrestling Series" (レスリングシリーズ), "Philosophy" (哲学, Tetsugaku), and "Forest Fairy" (森の妖精, Mori no Yousei) were used for such videos.

In its initial years, the Gachimuchi fandom was influenced by and had a bitter rivalry against a more-established fandom of a series of poorly-made videos known as "Manatsu no Yoru no Inmu" (真夏の夜の淫夢, "A Midsummer Night's Lewd Dream").

In some videos, its headquarters' buildings at Harajuku and Ikebukuro (former and current, respectively) were being destroyed by the characters, accompanied with the comment "Yattaze" (やったぜ, "I did it"). This practice originated from Nico Nico Douga's authorities deleting many videos related to the Inmu fandom for their questionable content, angering many fans.

Nico Nico Douga also hosts its own conventions for fans, which Billy Herrington sometimes visited with great applause.

Trivia Edit

  • The English word "wrestling" (レスリング) is usually associated in Nico Nico Douga with Gachimuchi, thus it being the unofficial name for Gachimuchi in Japanese-language websites.
